seamus brogan

BMT Defence Services (BMT), an operating company of BMT Group Ltd, the leading international design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced the appointment of Seamus Brogan as head of business development – ships in service support.

Seamus’s appointment is part of BMT’s response to the increasing trend for MoD to place greater reliance on industry providers to deliver In Service Support (ISS) for UK ships through larger value and longer term contracts. BMT is now well-placed to help the MoD monitor and manage these projects, with its independent position allowing it to deliver non-partisan, trusted, customer advice backed-up by the depth of experience and scale of resource that the BMT group of companies can offer.

Seamus will also help develop BMT’s role as a coordinating partner between industry parties, as well as between MoD and industry where BMT can add value to all stakeholders through its technical expertise and neutrality.

Seamus previously worked for SEA where he fulfilled numerous roles, including communication systems director, and was responsible for UK External Communication Systems across the UK Submarine Flotilla. He worked alongside BAE Systems to ensure the programme delivered 18 months ahead of schedule and, in partnership with MoD, created the common external communication systems (cECS) project.

BMT Defence Services business development director Roy Quilliam commented: "BMT Defence Services has a proud 30-year history in the in-service engineering support of Royal Navy warships and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels.

"We have recently seen the MoD DE&S Ships operating centre develop their thinking for a surface ship support strategy and establish a dedicated surface ship support programme to enact that strategy. The recruitment and appointment of Seamus to this new role will help us position and coordinate our activities to offer the full range of our experience and services to the benefit of the warship support team in DE&S. He will develop strategies and plans, in partnership with other suppliers that allow MoD stakeholders to enjoy full access to BMT’s capability and experience in this market sector."

"I am looking forward to the new challenges that this role brings," Brogan added.

"I will be able to apply much of my experience of operational management and ability to develop business relationships to bear, as well as gaining experience in new areas of MoD business. I am already encouraged by the breadth of capability that BMT is able to offer as we go all-out to gain a greater foothold in this area of business."
