Schroff’s VARISTAR EMC cabinets are now available in a wider range of standard depths. In addition to the previous cabinet depths of 600 and 800 mm, EMC cabinets with depths of 900 and 1000 mm are now also available as standard designs from a quantity of one and can be delivered within 10 days with ServicePLUS. The new depths will find use where sensitive electronic systems are involved, such as in medical, military and power generation applications. In such situations, data processing servers can be combined with measuring equipment in the same cabinet. Deeper servers will require more space in the cabinet in order to ensure sufficient air flow and suitable cabling.

The VARISTAR electronics cabinet platform offers a shielding concept against high-frequency radiation that drains interference directly via the cladding components, without it reaching the frame. An important role is played in this by the exceptionally robust hollow-chamber profile of the frame that fulfils multiple functions. The outside of the frame profile features symmetrically arranged surfaces angled at 45° that form the basis of the EMC and IP sealing design. The seal is fixed directly onto these 45° bevels.

The EMC shielding then runs from one cladding element directly to another via the seal, and the frame itself is not involved, on the principle of a Faraday cage. This VARISTAR shielding concept allows the use of a low-cost standard frame, thus ensuring a good price-performance ratio, and also contributes significantly to environmental sustainability as prescribed by the RoHS. The sealing material used is a conductive textile gasket. EMC tests carried out to IEC 61 587-3 confirm a shielding performance of 60 dB at 1 GHz and 40 dB at 3 GHz for an empty cabinet with dimensions 2000 x 600 x 600 mm (H x W x D).
