After more than 13 years of successful and intensive use of FORAN, Severnoye Design Bureau has reached an agreement with Sener for the extension and reconfiguration of the number of permanent licenses in order to fit their new project demands.
Severnoye Design Bureau, a leading company designing naval and commercial ships in Russia, was founded in 1946. Throughout the Bureau’s life of more than 55 years, a group of highly-qualified naval architects have been capable to solve the most complicated tasks in the area of designing ships and vessels.
The Bureau has designed more than 100 designs of different purposes, ranging from 500t patrol boats to 26,000t heavy nuclear-powered cruisers, and from bulkers to whaling boats. In general, more than 550 ships and vessels with the total displacement of about 1,5 million tons have been built under the Bureau’s designs. All of them are notable for their seaworthiness, reliability and operation economy. Some of the vessels were for the international market.
Within the last years the company has developed designs of LNGs, freezer vessels, trawlers, passenger vessels (SWATH vessel inclusive), environmental vessels with systems of water and atmosphere ecological monitoring, vessels for collection and integrated processing of waste oily water and solid wastes and a hospital vessel. The Severnoye Design Bureau takes part in the Russian Navy Revival programme. More than 20 pilot projects have been worked out.
The ships and vessels designing process in the Bureau are most up-to-date and distinguished by using FORAN. Some examples are:
- A multipurpose frigate of Project 22350 for the Russian Navy is carried out at the Severnaya Verf shipyard based in St Petersburg. The ship is designed for combat operations in blue or brown waters area, and in the ocean. The ship’s displacement is 4,500t, with an overall length of 130m and a cruising range of 4,000nm
- In 2003, three frigates of Project 11356, built to the Bureau’s design, were delivered to India. These ships were equipped with advanced weapon systems. The frigates received a good rating from customers; this fact became a justification for the new contract for the construction of the follow-on ships
- The development of the detailed design documentation is carried out for the modernised Project 11356 follow-on frigates (the Indian Navy) that are under construction at the Yantar shipyard based at Kaliningrad
- In 2006, a supply vessel Project 22180 was launched at Zenit Shipyard, Uralsk city, Kazakhstan. The vessel, with a displacement of about 240t and a speed of 30kn, is intended for the the delivery of cargo and staff to the oil platforms, ecological patrolling, suppressing of poaching and rescue operations in the Caspian sea
- A border guard ship of Project 22460 is currently under construction at Almaz shipyard. The ship is designed for the defence of state border, natural resources of internal waters, exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, as well as for fighting terrorist groups, smuggling and piracy, for rescue operations, for environmental monitoring and cure of natural disaster effects
- The Bureau’s specialists are participating in the technical assistance for the construction of Project 17 lead ship of frigate class that is about to be completed. The ships are being constructed in Mumbai (India) at the Mazagon Dock Limited Shipyard. The trials are going to be held in April this year
