As a world reference in the shipbuilding industry, SENER took active part in the recent edition of Norshipping 2011 in Oslo, from 24-27 May, with a stand in the Spanish pavilion. The new revolutionary version of the CAD/CAM FORAN V70, launched by SENER in November last year, was presented during the exhibition and some technical presentations and demonstrations were carried out to show some of the new important features and developments.

FORAN has been widely used in Norway for years, and the exhibition gave a great opportunity not only to contact with new companies interested in FORAN, but also to contact with many of the existing customers and particularly with the users.

FORAN V70 represents a new generation of CAD/CAM/CAE systems for the design and production of ships and off-shore platforms. With innovative tools and improvements and developments in all its areas, FORAN V70 is the best solution to achieve the major challenge of reducing time and costs in a complex and global environment.

Examples of these improvements in all the disciplines of the system are the Unicode characters for the localisation of the system to other non-latin languages, the new module FVIEWER for visualisation and virtual navigation, the new module for the general arrangement definition, the new module FNORM that replaces the old one for the definition hull structure standards , the new options for the pipeline routing with a highly interactive and friendly environment, and the link with FEM systems, among others.

There is also an increasing interest in the shipyards regarding the product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, in order to optimise the design and production performance and to reduce costs. In this regard, SENER has developed an open link called FPLM allowing the integration of the CAD/CAM FORAN with different PLM systems.
