11 months after its christening in May 2019, S43 has now been officially handed over to the Navy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, represented by vice-admiral Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said.

Despite difficult conditions due to the coronavirus, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (tkMS) CEO Dr Rolf Wirtz expressed his delight in his address to the project managers.

He said: “S43 is the third of four submarines of the HDW209/1400 mod class for Egypt, which are equipped with innovative and reliable mast systems from our valued partner Gabler.”

The programme will end with the handover of the fourth submarine in 2021.

Gabler Naval specialises in providing international navies with innovative reliable submarine mast systems and key components, which enable submarines to safely perform high-value manoeuvres.
