US Navy concludes flight test of Redkite sensor aboard TigerShark UAS


Logos Technologies’ Redkite wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) sensor has successfully completed flight testing in Yuma, Arizona.

The flight trial has been conducted aboard the TigerShark tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which was developed by Navmar Applied Sciences (NASC).

The test demonstrated Redkite's versatility on a wide range of airborne platforms, and was carried out on behalf of the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR).

Logos Technologies president John Marion said: “We’ve had Redkite on planes and helicopters, and just recently we tested an integrated version of the WAMI sensor inside the payload bay of a Group 3 unmanned aircraft system (UAS).

“Now we’ve integrated a Redkite pod to the underside of a TigerShark wing.”

Redkite is a small, lightweight electro-optical system that weighs less than 35lb, which is capable of delivering levels of performance and functionality comparable to that of larger WAMI sensors.

It can be used to monitor a city-sized area in near real-time, simultaneously detecting and tracking multiple geographically dispersed targets, while also recording events for later analysis.

Redkite can now be integrated onto TigerShark and any other similarly sized platform following the successful completion of the test.

The system previously completed its advanced flight testing aboard the Insitu Integrator UAS in May.
