US-based Polaris Alpha subsidiary EOIR Technologies has secured a $48m indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to deliver research, development, and technical services to the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Electronics Science and Technology Division (ESTD).

NRL is the corporate research laboratory for the US Navy and US Marine Corps.

To be conducted under the current contract, the research is divided into seven broad research fields.

EOIR Technologies will compete at the DO/TO level for Research Field 1: Optoelectronics.

The Optoelectronics field carries out a broad research and development portfolio that varies from basic to applied research on optoelectronic materials and devices, to be used for space and terrestrial applications, where operations are executed under high environmental stress.

The research aims at developing semiconductor materials that are equipped with features such as wavelength sensitivity and electrical conversion efficiency.

It also includes the development of low dimensional structures and materials that facilitate control of the electronic and optoelectronic properties at the quantum mechanical level.

EOIR Technologies Electromagnetic Warfare vice-president Mark Coleman said: “EOIR is well poised to support NRL in its mission to retain battlefield spectrum dominance through new sensing and imaging techniques.

The $48m IDIQ contract has a provision for order period stretching to five years through December 2021.

NRL-ESTD is a developer of electronic materials, devices, components, and subsystems for advanced and modern systems in support of customers throughout NRL, the US Department of Defence and other government organisations.
