The US Navy has awarded two contracts to General Dynamics (GD) Electric Boat to modernise submarines and provide maintenance work and develop advanced technologies for undersea platforms.

Under the first $41.6m contract, GD will continue operating Groton Naval Submarine Base’s New England Maintenance Manpower Initiative.

The company will provide repair, modernisation and support services for submarines, service aircraft, floating dry docks and additional base equipment.

The second $15.1m order involves advanced submarine research and development studies supporting survivability, hydrodynamics, acoustics, manufacturability, materials and maintainability.
