Lockheed Martin has awarded a contract to DRS Technologies to provide production hardware in support of the US Navy submarine technology insertion hardware (TIH) programme.

Under the $691m indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity subcontract, DRS will provide hardware for submarine combat and sonar systems based on commercially available hardware and software.

The TIH programme involves design, development and production of hardware for future submarine systems and platforms.

The Royal Australian Navy will receive similar technology insertions from the US Navy for the Collins-class submarines through the Foreign Military Sales programme route.
