The Malaysian Navy’s second Scorpene submarine, KD Tun Razak, is expected to arrive at the country’s submarine base Teluk Sepanggar, Sabah by mid-July.

Built by French company DCNS, the 67.5m-long submarine has a displacement capacity of 1,550t and can accommodate a crew quantity of 31.

In June 2002, DCNS received a contract from the Malaysian government for the construction of two Scorpene submarines along with associated logistics and training.

During a two-month voyage from France, the submarine will have completed successful passage through the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Malacca Straits.
