BrahMos Missile to Undergo Tests in September

05 February 2010

A BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, which can reach targets up to 290km away, is to undergo its first test-firing by Russia from the newly built Talwar Class warships destined for the Indian Navy.

The test, scheduled for September 2010, will be carried out in the Baltic Sea from the navy's Talwar Class stealth frigates, which are being constructed in Kaliningrad in Russia, according to defence ministry officials.

BrahMos is a joint product of India and Russia and several variants have been test-fired 21 times and have been inducted into the Indian Navy and Army.

Russia is building three Talwar Class ships, which will be equipped with vertical-launching BrahMos missiles.
