The Iranian Navy will launch two Ghadir Class lightweight submarines on the 28 November 2009, according to Commander of the Iranian Army’s Navy Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.

The admiral also announced that four hovercraft would also join the navy after the completion of repair work.

The Ghadir Class midget submarine is equipped with sonar-evading technology and can remain hidden from advanced radars and swift detection and location vessels.

The 27m-long and 2.75m-wide Gadhir Class submarine has a displacement of 120t when submerged and can cruise at a maximum submerged speed of 8kt.
