The Royal Australian Navy and the US Navy’s Submarine Command Course (SCC) have participated in a tactical submarine exercise off Western Australia.

The exercise witnessed the participation of HMAS Dechaineux, HMAS Newcastle, HMAS Sirius and USS Oklahoma City (SSN 723) submarines as well as maritime patrol Aircraft from the Australian Air Force RAAF.

HMAS Dechaineux Commanding Officer Jason Cupples said: “The exercise proved to be extremely beneficial for all participants; enabling new crew members to put into practice what they have been taught as well as allowing experienced crews to hone their skills.”

The Australian Navy supports the SCC every year by sending an Australian submarine to the international biennial Rim of the Pacific Exercise, or hosting the course in Western Australia.
