Russia has successfully tested its Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile, according to Foreign Minister Anatoly Serdyukov.

Anatoly Serdyukov said the missile, which was launched from the Yuri Dolgoruky submarine, successfully hit targets in the Pacific Ocean, proving its capabilities.

Under development for the Russian Navy, the Bulava missile is a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), which can be deployed on the new Borei Class ballistic missile nuclear submarines.

The missile, which was designed by Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology, is expected to replace the R-39 solid-fuel SLBM.
