The Italian Navy’s first FREMM multimission European frigate, Carlo Bergamini, has been launched at the Riva Trigoso (Genoa) shipyard.

The 139m-long Carlo Bergamini has a full load displacement capacity of 5,900t, a maximum speed of 27kt and can accommodate a crew of 145.

The vessel features greater flexibility and is capable of operating in all tactical situations.

The FREMM frigates will replace the Lupo and Maestrale class frigates built by Fincantieri in the 1970s.
