The German Navy is negotiating a contract with Carl Zeiss for the maritime electro-optical systems (MEOS) II at the biennial International Maritime Defence Exhibition (Imdex) being held in Singapore.
According to Shephard, MEOS II systems could be purchased for deployment on navy vessels later this year.
The MEOS II will be operated alongside Rheinmetall Defence’s in-service multisensor platform (MSP) 500 and MLG 27 light naval gun system.
MEOS II comprises a thermal imager, day sight CCD zoom camera and laser rangefinder that is capable of identifying targets at distances as far as 60km.
