Iran is manufacturing oceangoing warships to bolster the Iranian Navy’s capabilities outside the nation’s territorial waters, Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has said.
“We, at the Defence Ministry, are moving in two lines [in building] oceangoing ships. One pertains to the warships that are being produced now and are capable of sailing in the oceans.”
The other line of action that the Defence Ministry is focused on is manufacturing large destroyers, reported Fars News Agency.
The Industrial Development and Renovation Organisation of Iran (IDRO) has plans to build five 100m-long, 34m-wide oceangoing ships.
