Raytheon has received a contract from Boeing to produce and deliver 42 APG-79 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars for the US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet tactical aircraft.

The contract is the second procurement in the four-year multiyear III programme awarded to Boeing.

Raytheon’s F/A-18 programme director Eric Ditmars said the APG-79 AESA radar provided the US Navy with enhanced situational awareness over mechanically scanned array radars.

“The long-range capability allows aircrews more time to process, share and assess information,” he added.
