The Indian Navy has inducted a 930 T water barge, Pamba, into the flotilla of auxiliary craft at the Southern Naval Command, India.

The 50m-long self-propelled barge, manned by a crew of 17, can carry 500t of water and is capable of cruising at a speed of 12kt.

The vessel is equipped with the latest communication and navigation equipment to serve navy warships outside the harbour and elsewhere to ensure quick operational turnaround.

The navy will also induct more ferry craft and powerful tugs in its fleet in the coming months, Southern Naval Command chief staff officer Commodore S Nedunchezian said.
