The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a potential sale of 36 MK-48 Mod 7 advanced technology torpedo conversion kits and associated equipment to Canada.

Under the estimated $125m Foreign Military Sale (FMS), Canada will also be provided with spare and repair parts, weapon systems support and integration, personnel training and training equipment, as well as logistical support.

The conversion kits will upgrade the Canadian Navy’s existing MK-48 torpedoes from Mod 4 to Mod 7 configuration and these will be used aboard Victoria-class diesel submarines.

The prime contractors for the possible sale have not been disclosed.
