General Electric Aircraft Engines has been awarded a modification contract to exercise an option for 68 Lot 15 F414-GE-400 engines and device kits for the US Navy F/A-18E/F aircraft.

The $246.5m contract is a follow-on to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract by the US Naval Air Systems Command.

The F/A-18E/F is a Boeing-built Super Hornet with a twin-engine, 4.5th-generation carrier-based multirole fighter aircraft, equipped with an internal 20mm gun, air-to-air missiles and air-to-surface weapons.

Work will be performed at the company’s US facilities and is expected to be completed in April 2013.
