Swiftships Shipbuilders has been awarded a modification contract for the detail design and construction of three 35m patrol boats and associated technical services for the Iraqi Navy.

The $42.1m contract is a modification to a previously awarded foreign military sales (FMS) contract.

The contract modification includes options for three additional 35m patrol boats which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to $83.4m.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facilities in Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi and Virginia, US, and is expected to be completed by August 2012.
