The Indian navy’s Soviet-built aircraft carrier, Admiral Gorshkov, has finally begun dock trials at the Sevmash Shipyard in Severodvinsk, Russia.
The trials are focused on testing the main power-generation units and the radio-electronic armament systems, manufactured in India, according to The Moscow Times.
The carrier, to be renamed INS Vikramaditya, is currently undergoing a $2.33bn repair and modernisation programme at the Russian shipyard.
The final delivery to India is scheduled for 2012, four years later than originally scheduled.
