Raytheon has been awarded a firm-fixed-price contract to provide reeling machine test bench (RMTB) intermediate level equipment, ancillary RMTB equipment and logistics services in support of the MH-60R AN/AQS-22 airborne low-frequency sonar (ALFS).

The AN/AQS-22 ALFS is the primary undersea warfare (USW) sensor of the MH-60R multimission helicopter.

The system enables the US Navy MH-60R helicopter to perform USW missions of submarine detection, tracking, localisation and classification, as well as acoustic intercept, underwater communications and environmental data acquisition.

Work on the $11.8m contract will be carried out at the company’s facility in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, US, and is expected to be complete in April 2013.
