Lockheed has been awarded a range of production and development contracts worth $360m to provide a spectrum of systems aboard the US Navy MH-60R Seahawk helicopter fleet.

US Navy MH-60 programme manager Captain Dean Peters said the navy’s investment in the MH-60R is to ensure the fleet remains at the forefront of anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare.

The navy has also exercised a $38m option under the current multiyear contract to produce the next lot of common cockpits for MH-60S and MH-60R helicopters.

The contract also covers the infrastructure required for production of the automatic radar periscope detection and discrimination (ARPDD) system aboard six MH-60R aircraft to support initial operational capability in 2013.
