Northrop has been awarded a cost plus fixed fee contract modification from the US Navy to continue the engineering and design effort for the newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R Ford (CVN 78).
The $189.2m planned contract modification will fund additional design, planning and system integration activities and analysis.
Gerald R Ford Class engineering and CVN 79 construction vice-president Mike Shawcross said the contract modification was essential to continuing the ship design to support construction.
“Now that the design is in the 3D product model, our engineering and planning effort is focused on the production of instructions for the shops and ship assembly,” he said.
