BG Group is exploring new gas fields near the African coast. Three of their vessels - Stanford Buzzard, Crest Mariner I and Crest Mariner II - are acting as supporting vessels for one large drillship.

Due to the fact that pirate activities worldwide are increasing and a growing number of vessels have been taken hostage by using machine guns and rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) the BG Group decided to increase the protection of the ship bridges and the crew.
