The Feasibility of a Corrosion-Resistant Ship
27 August 2010This white paper seeks to draw the attention of potential ship owners to design considerations that will mitigate the risk of unexpected corrosion of naval vessels and significantly reduce their through-life costs.
The paper includes design consideration factors such as stress and strain, geometry and services, substrate surface preparation and application, influence of environmental factors, material suitability and corrosion management strategies.
The paper tries to identify other areas for consideration that can result in improved corrosion resistance in addition to common corrosion-prevention and control techniques such as coatings and cathodic protection.
