Kollmorgen Corporation - Electro-Optical Defense SystemsFor over 90 years Kollmorgen has remained devoted to developing high-accuracy, stabilized, electro-optical systems for naval defense. Kollmorgen employs a full spectrum of engineering and manufacturing disciplines to design a variety of sensor and weapon systems for submarines, surface ships, combat vehicles and other defense platforms. Kollmorgen has the capability to accept any electro-optical or motion control challenge and then perform the necessary design, build and testing services. Kollmorgen provides a wide range of technical services for:
SUBMARINE PERISCOPE AND OPTRONIC MAST SYSTEMSKollmorgen is the sole designer and manufacturer of all US periscope and optronic mast systems. In addition, Kollmorgen has installed periscopes on several international platforms including TR1700, T209, Walrus, A-19 and Sauro class submarines. These systems include precise, high resolution optics, integrated sensor packaging which might include ESM EW, DF, GPS or communications antennas and thermal imaging, low-light imaging or image-intensified cameras, as well as low observables technology. Our submarine system products include:
SURFACE SHIP OPTICAL SIGHT AND STABILIZED WEAPON SYSTEMSKollmorgen has designed and manufactured state-of-the-art surface ship optical sights and stabilized, remote control gun systems for many years. Surface ship systems products include:
First installed aboard a US Navy DDG 51 class destroyer in 1992, Kollmorgen's MK46 is the industry standard for electro-optical tracking and fire control systems. The system, which includes a daylight TV camera, a 3µm to 5µm thermal imager, an eye-safe laser rangefinder and stabilization accuracy to 30µrads, is also in production for Ticonderoga class cruisers. Calzoni, a subsidiary of Kollmorgen designs and manufactures Minehunter autopilot and propulsion systems, helicopter handling systems, weapon handling systems, and stabilized launch and recovery cranes. IMAGING AND MOTION CONTROL SUBSYSTEMSWith full capability engineering, Kollmorgen has the ability to develop, design and manufacture imaging and motion control subsystems for unique customer applications including, but not limited to, antenna pedestals, telescoping masts, deep submersible actuators and weapon-handling systems. Products are typically custom designed solutions that address the requirement to operate reliably in severe environments. Ruggedized control electronics accompany many of these subsystems. VEHICLE SYSTEMS PRODUCTSAt present, Kollmorgen is delivering the M224 sight for the Mobile Gun System (MGS) as part of the US Army brigade combat team. Kollmorgen's Compact Lightweight Armored Weapon Station (CLAWS) is a 2-axis, remotely controlled platform for small caliber weapons. CLAWS is currently being operated by the US Army, the US Marine Corps and other customers.
