ShipConstructor Launches Split and Merge enterprise solution

18 March 2008 14:46

VICTORIA—Ship design and production engineering companies who recognize the competitive advantages of collaborative shipbuilding project development will welcome the much-anticipated arrival of ShipConstructor Software Inc(SSI) Split and Merge enterprise solution, announced today by Rolf G. Oetter, President and CEO. "Split and Merge is a critical strategic tool that makes it easy to outsource portions of a project to specialized subcontractors while main-taining overall control and concurrent engineering through periodic merges," said Oetter.

"SSI's Split and Merge database manage- ment system is a very easy-to-use way to parcel out distinct design/production module development assignments to skilled teams anywhere in the world. They can independently develop their section quickly, cost-effectively and accurately, then send back the completed file over a secure network for seamless reintegration into a single project model."

Split & Merge ensures that all ShipConstructor-defined attributes (such as weight, material, radius, finishes, insulation, manufacturer, CG Point) as well as any number of user-defined attributes (such as order/model number, plate process) are communicated to all project participants. Users can also specify whether their attributes are essential or not.

This allows a yard manager to set up the 'rules' which enables modelers to accurately create the parts with detailed accuracy, in turn facilitating efficient production in the shipyard. In addition, Split & Merge enables designers to send completed sections to the shipyard for construction while other sections are still being developed, significantly decreasing design-to-build time. The entire ShipConstructor product model and all attribute data can easily be exported to Navisworks and projected for periodic group review of every detail from a whole-ship perspective. For example, if a piece of equipment appears to be incorrectly placed in the project, a single click on the item immediately reveals all data about the part, including stock type, what system it belongs to, where it resides in the database, its tag number and who installed it. SSI’s Split & Merge builds upon the groundbreaking capabilities of ShipConstructor’s DDROM™ SmartParts™ 3D parametric modeling and revision system. SC 2008 is completely compatible with many powerful programs such as Inventor, Rhino, MaxSurf , Multisurf, NavisWorks and all versions of SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005.
