L-3 Communications ELAC Nautik - Sonar Systems, Echosounders and Underwater Communication Systems

L-3 Communications ELAC Nautik is a leading manufacturer of hydroacoustic equipment for navies as well as civilian users. For more than 80 years ELAC Nautik's activities have focused on underwater detection and signal processing as well as underwater communication.

A wide range of products have been developed and manufactured for these markets. Sonar systems and components for navy vessels, and echo sounders for navigation and survey, are particular L-3 Communications ELAC Nautik specialities that have been sold worldwide and are established as standard in most NATO countries.

NAVIGATION, MINE AVOIDANCE AND DETECTION SONARS NDS 3070 VANGUARD / SCOUT

These modular sonars are for detection and avoidance of obstacles for submarines (SCOUT) and surface ships (VANGUARD). Originally developed for the detection of mines, the systems can also be used to locate other mobile or stationary objects underwater. Complemented by on-board sensors, anchoring surface vessels can use the systems for surveillance and protection against divers.

Due to the high flexibility of the system, a variety of antennas can be used for different applications. Cylindrical antennas and planar arrays are standard, but conformal arrays fitting the ship's contour or other special antennas can also be designed and produced.

COMPACT PASSIVE SONAR LOPAS

ELAC passive sonars are used to detect and determine the relative position of underwater acoustic sources. Mostly installed on submarines, they indicate the direction with relatively high precision within a broad frequency range and classify by means of special algorithms the type of acoustic source.

The antennas used for these applications are cylindrical or conformal arrays fitting the outline of the submarine. On-board surface ships passive sonars are used to track underwater bodies equipped with pingers (e.g. torpedoes).

LOPAS is a flexible and expandable system, incorporating state-of-the-art technology and a compact, low-cost design. These features allow it to be tailored according to each customer's requirements. The design is well-suited for use in upgrading existing equipment.

UNDERWATER COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS UT 3000 / UT 2200

The UT 3000 is a highend digital underwater communication system based on the latest DSP technology. It combines classical analogue sideband modulation with different modes of digital modulation patterns. Several other media are connectable to make robust high data-rate communication as easy as possible, including laptops and USB-sticks.

The available modes for the UT 3000 are voice telephony (analogue or digital), SMS mode, digital high-volume data-exchange, distance measurement, pinger, transponder, emergency mode, diver communication and own noise measurement. Upper and lower sidebands are usable. The system complies with STANAG regulations.

The UT 2200 is a compact, easy, underwater analogue telephone. Limited to two frequencies and analogue-voice telephony, it is the reliable emergency redundancy to the UT 3000.

NAVAL ECHO SOUNDER VE 5900

The VE 5900 is a modular high-end naval echo sounder system for submarines and surface ships. Depth data is presented as an echogram or as numerical values on a high-resolution colour display. It offers enhanced bottom-detection and penetration and operation with up to four transducers with varying frequencies.

The VE 5900 enables processing and presentation of position and environmental data (pressure, temperature, density, salinity and sound velocity). The VE 5900 is the successor to the successful VE59 (which sold more than 350 units) and compatible with all its sensors.

NAVIGATION ECHO SOUNDER LAZ 5100

LAZ 5100 is a commercial state-of-the-art navigation echo sounder with high-resolution graphical TFT colour display for all water depths. It is available as a single or dual frequency unit, with up to four transducers for frequencies from 30kHz to 210kHz, including retrofits with transducers of other manufacturers.

PINGER LOCATION SONAR PILOS

PILOS is a passive operating-system to detect and track underwater signals from ships or underwater vehicles which are equipped with pingers, acoustic sources or similar equipment. In an optional active-mode PILOS may be used to detect submarines and surface vessels, or can be used as a navigation aid in narrow and / or dangerous waters. The system is an important auxiliary equipment for sea acceptance tests and training support.

DIVER SONAR DSE 1

DSE 1 is a portable active / passive sonar with display for divers for the detection of objects and obstacles in rivers, lakes and shallow coastal areas. Sensors, electronics, operating elements, accumulators and display are contained in one compact device. More than 80 units have been sold.

SURVEY SYSTEMS

ELAC Nautik offers a wide range of single-beam and multi-beam echo sounders for commercial and scientific survey applications.
