STN ATLAS has booked an order worth several million EUR from Chile. The order concerns the delivery of a shiphandling simulator to be delivered to the Dirección General del Territorio Maritime y Marina Mercante, the head authority for maritime affairs in Valparaiso/Chile, by October of the year.
According to an STN ATLAS spokesman, this order is rated as trend-setting since this is the first sales success on maritime simulators to the South American continent. At the same time, this achievement in South America also underlines the success of MariTEAM an alliance forged between STN ATLAS and the Danish Maritime Institute (DMI) last year. The contract does not only include the system delivery the customer also ordered special training courses to facilitate the system and to educate future instructors how to optimise the use of such a simulator. These courses will be held by DMI.
The "SHS CIMAR“ shiphandling simulator (CIMAR stands for Centro de Instrucción y Capacitación Maritima, training center and center for maritime qualification) will be used for the training and qualification of nautical personnel. The centerpiece of the simulator is an ANS 5000. nautical bridge equipped with typical components necessary for navigation and a seven-channel visual system presenting real-time computer-generated images displays the environment on a 210 degree screen. In addition a secondary ship cubicle including a 90° visual system and three SimFlex Navigators, PC based stand alone shiphandling-simulators to be delivered by DMI are part of the delivery.
