ANS 5000 – the name of a whole family of shiphandling simulators from STN ATLAS – has been granted type certification by the classification society Germanischer Lloyd (GL).
The type certification granted just a few days ago confirms that the ANS 5000 simulators meet the requirements for nautical training in accordance with the international standard STCW 95 (Seafarer's Training, Certification and Watchkeeping). This applies to all of the variants of the ANS 5000 ranging from the simple radar simulator to the sophisticated simulation system with several nautical bridges. The standard STCW 95 issued by the International Maritime Organization IMO, which is a sub-organization of the United Nations, regulates the requirements for the training and qualification of nautical crews on seagoing merchant and passenger vessels. STCW 95 is therefore the basis for the performance of seafarer's training.
The Simulation Systems division had already obtained GL type certification for its ship engine simulator SES4000 in September 2000. STN ATLAS is therefore the first company in the world capable of delivering certified simulators not only for the engine but also for the bridge sector.
A fact that is particularly significant for simulation centers in which several simulators are also used in combined operation.
