COTS INTEGRATED BRIDGE SYSTEMS AND COMMUNICATION AND NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT

As a systems house, the company has considerable expertise in the electrical interfacing of COTS and defence sector equipment. Our understanding of naval operating procedures assists us in making correct equipment choices to suit operational tasks. Imaginative responses and flexibility ensure that all equipment fitted is the latest available.

MES’s clients are typically looking for a company who can offer the cost saving benefits of commercial equipment that is suitable for a naval environment. The reference list includes a full range of solutions from integrated bridge systems to small pilothouse outfits.

NAVAL NIGHT VISION EQUIPMENT, TRACKING SYSTEMS AND MARINE SURVEILLANCE RADAR

Many projects require some special equipment meeting the functional requirements of the user. MES has been involved in the following specialist systems, again using commercial equipment for military applications at a fraction of the price that navies or coastguard agencies have expected to pay:

  • Night vision equipment stabilised for use on small craft
  • Sea Boat tracking systems – surface picture management for own assets
  • Mobile radar surveillance – land based vehicle fitted with marine surveillance equipment for coastline protection
  • Broadband customised DF equipment

RECENT NAVAL EQUIPMENT PROJECTS

Recent and current turnkey projects include:

  • FOPV – Future Offshore Patrol Vessels built by Vosper Thornycroft UK Ltd for the Royal Navy
  • LE Roisin and LE Niamh, two offshore patrol vessels built at Appledore Shipbuilders Ltd for the Irish Naval Service
  • Landing craft LCU Mk10, 10 vessels built by BAE Systems for the Royal Navy
  • Hovercraft for various coastguard agencies including India, Saudi Arabia, Korea, and Finland – also military hovercraft for Royal Marines
  • Fast, stealth interceptor craft for Cougartek

NAVAL EQUIPMENT SPARES

In addition to fulfilling the usual spare parts requirement for new build projects, MES has a spares department to assist overseas navies with the procurement of parts for UK-built electronic equipment, including integrated bridge systems, used on ships formerly operated by the Royal Navy.

NAVAL EQUIPMENT TRAINING SUPPORT

MES can offer operator and maintainer training for its products, including integrated bridge systems. Recognising the value of mission simulators in providing realistic and demanding situations for operator training, MES works with a simulator manufacturer to provide such training that is equipment specific.
