TenCate Advanced Armour - Naval Ship Armour

Ballistic protection from TenCate Advanced Armour is lightweight and designed to stop a specified threat with minimum weight increase. We provide solutions that are customised and tailored to meet customer-specified threats, weight requirements and costs.

A variety of materials are used in the manufacturing of our protection solutions for naval ship armour. Our technology is built-up composites. The materials we use for our protection solutions – often encased in a rubber matrix is:

Ballistic protection solutions belong to the most thoroughly tested components available and the materials have to meet a number of international standards and requirements such as the NIJ and EN standards as well as NATO STANAGS. In addition to these demands, the material must also be lightweight, easy to work with and comfortable to use. TenCate Advanced Armour takes all these factors into consideration when developing a new product or working on a project for a customer.

Our projects include protection of the Swedish Visby Class corvettes, the British Type 45 Destroyer and several small size patrol vessels such as the P46 patrol boat build in the UAE. For the development, design and manufacturing of the ballistic protection system for the British Type 45 Destroyer, we were awarded the 'Chairman's Award for Innovation and Implementation' from BAE Systems, which is the prime contractor on the T 45 project.

TenCate Ares is our segment for personnel protection solutions consisting of anti-ballistic shields and insert plates for body armour. These inserts are designed to significantly improve the degree of protection available from bullet-proof and fragmentation vests. Furthermore it provides the best possible protection against even multiple hits. TenCate Armourtex is our segment for high-performance fabrics, pre-impregnated fabrics and coated fabrics. TenCate Advanced Armour fabrics are used for personnel ballistic protection as well as for anti-fragment blankets. These fabrics ensure users all the benefits of lightweight all-in-one protection that is also weatherproof and flexible, resulting in greater comfort and longer endurance during operations.

TenCate Securit is our segment for civilian protection. We provide you with ballistic protection solutions for civilian vehicles, CIT (cash-in-transit) vehicles and 4 wheel drive vehicles. Our engineering team designs solutions that are tailored to meet customer-specified requirements such as the threat, weight and cost.
