MKU - Vessel Ballistic-Protective EquipmentMKU is the leading Indian manufacturer of defence protection systems. After achieving a dominant position in India, MKU expanded and now has a direct customer base in over 50 countries. NAVAL BALLISTIC-PROTECTIONAmongst our ballistic-protection range is equipment for naval vessels and personnel. Our range of naval ballistic-protection equipment includes:
LIGHTWEIGHT VESSEL ARMOURTraditional steel armour for vessels and vehicles provided protection but seriously compromised on vessels' manoeuvrability and performance. Field studies have shown that due to increased weight with conventional armour systems, vessels experience a decline in their fuel efficiency by approximately 50% and increase in the maintenance cost by 35%. Today's vessels have therefore moved towards lightweight ballistic-protective vessel armour, as supplied by MKU. ADVANCED NAVAL ARMOURThrough its research and development efforts, MKU has managed to constantly outperform itself and also set benchmarks for its competitors, including:
MULTIPURPOSE ARMOUR PANELSThere is an extensive range of bullets and calibres existing today, and with more being developed constantly, the number of conceivable threats is endless. MKU's vessel armour panels conform to a variety of well-defined international threat levels, and protect against:
COMPOSITE ARMOUR PANELSMKU armour panels have a wide range of applications and can be used as backing material for primary ceramic or ballistic steel armour, or as upgrading material for existing armour systems. The panels come in different composite materials, based on customer requirements and end-use. Thin and light, our PE anti-handgun ammunition panels require minimal adjustments, and are effective against 9mm ammunition, and .357 and .44 Magnum ammunition. They have a minimal weight per m². Our aramid anti-handgun ammunition panels provide high performance even at elevated temperatures, and can be customised in 3-D shapes, with or without matrices. BALL AMMUNITION BALLISTIC PROTECTIONMKU has a variety of armour panels to protect against threats from ball ammunition. The panels come in different composite materials based on customer requirements and end use, such as:
Common calibres which our naval ballistic-protective armour will withstand include AK47 MSC, 5.56mm x 45mm and 7.62mm x 51mm. ARMOUR-PIERCING AMMUNITION PROTECTIONCommon calibres AK 47 AP, 7.62mm x 51mm AP and 7.62mm x 63mm AP. MKU has various armour panels for protection against armour-piercing ammunition, ideal for vehicles, protective shelters and personnel. The panels come in different composite materials such as:
NAVAL SPALL LINERSThe spall liner is a composite material panel mounted inside the vehicle. It is designed to stop small-arms projectiles and small fragments. It also reduces the damage inside the vessel if the vehicle is penetrated. MKU's spall liners are made using different types of composite materials which are able to catch the generated spall fragments, and the angle of cone is significantly reduced, decreasing damage considerably. They are made from materials such as aramid, polyethylene, E-glass and S2-glass. MACHINE-GUN AND CANNON BALLISTIC ARMOURProtection against high-performing heavy machine-gun and cannon ammunition (such as 12.7mm and 14.5mm) requires ingenuous armour solutions. MKU has developed solutions by combining various ballistic materials such as ceramics, PE, aramid and steel for optimal protection. These armour panels are also resistant to environmental degradation and incidental damage.
