AST Security Equipment (AST), Finishes Installing a Modular Ballistic Armour System on a Megayacht Currently Under Construction by B+V, Hamburg

14 February 2007 13:46

The threat scenario for a private / business megayacht differs considerably from that of a typical navy vessel such as a frigate or corvette. As a consequence, an analysis of the ballistic threats leads to a multi-faceted protection system requirement.

While specific weight is of much more concern in helicopters, it also plays a role for yachts, especially when the protected areas are high above the water line. The effects of blast waves, ballistic splinters and projectiles have to be considered, as they may be experienced during piracy and paramilitary attacks.

The modular solution offered by AST allows you to define a configurable optimum, considering weight, cost and protection level. AST offers the full spectrum of ballistic protection systems, from soft aramide mats and transparent polycarbonate windows to hard ballistic protection plates made of hybrids of aramide and HPPE, and wood, brass plated steel, ceramics and sapphire.

AST is now ready to implement such protection in cooperation with any shipyard offering construction of new megayachts and gigayachts.
