Sonavision Sensors for Deep Ocean Engineering ROVs

20 August 2007

Underwater Technology Manufacturer, Sonavision Ltd of Aberdeen, Scotland and ROV Manufacturer, Deep Ocean Engineering of San Leandro, California have signed an agreement for the supply of Sonavision equipment to customers of the DOE range of ROVs. Deep Ocean Engineering will offer their customers a full suite of sensors including Mercury and Titan Sonar, Echo Altimeter, Centaur Bathymetric System and Hawkeye Cameras for the complete range of Triggerfish, Phantom and Vector vehicles.

Deep Ocean Engineering currently has Mercury Sonar for demonstration to clients. Ideal for obstacle avoidance, navigation, target identification and mine classification; the Mercury embodies all the characteristics of a typical Sonavision product - hand crafted 1:3 Piezo composite ceramic transducers combining with high quality electronics to provide high resolution imaging in a robust, functional and user-friendly package. The Mercury complements the DOE range of ROVs, which include the new Vector L4 and M5 and the highly popular Triggerfish, as well as the enormously versatile Phantom HD Series.

Alasdair Murrie, International Distribution Manager for Sonavision Ltd, explained: "This is an exciting joint-venture with excellent potential and I look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship between two companies who are leaders and innovators in their respective disciplines, both domestically and internationally. This partnership agreement will further bolster the excellent reputation of Sonavision products not only in the USA, but also globally".

Mike Gilson, Deep Ocean Engineering Vice President Customer Solutions commented "We anticipate significant customer interest in the Mercury due to its capability, size and market interest in the Sonavision product line. At the moment we have the Mercury on offer with our ROVs to several customers and the interest level in this product tells us that it will be a winner and will complement our ROVs extremely well."
