Bruker Daltonics Introduces RAID-XP, a Novel Hand-held Homeland Security Instrument that Combines Nuclear and Chemical Agent Detection

Gothenburg, Sweden -- June 2, 2004 - Bruker Daltonics Inc., an operating company of Bruker BioSciences Corporation (NASDAQ: BRKR), announces the RAID™-XP, a combined portable instrument to detect chemical and radiation threats. The rapidly increasing demands on defense and homeland security have led to the urgent need for reliable radiation and chemical agent detection in a single, lightweight instrument.
Based on the outstanding chemical detection capability with low false positive alarm rates of its well-proven RAID-M ion mobility spectrometer, and the superior gamma detection capability of its SVG-2 radiation meter, Bruker Daltonics introduces the new RAID-XP today at the 8th International Symposium on Protection against Chemical and Biological Warfare Agents in Gothenburg.
The combination of two detection technologies within one easy-to-use, portable instrument allows a versatile response to a wide range of threats. Its chemical detection capabilities include the classical chemical warfare agents (CWAs), as well as threats arising from toxic industrial chemicals (TICs). The RAID-XP radiological detection capability includes gamma radiation dose rate detection and integrated total accumulated dose calculation.
