Bruker Daltonics Introduces Chemical Cloud Tomography, an Innovative Application for its RAPID™ Stand-Off Chemical Agent Detector

Gothenburg, Sweden -- June 2, 2004 - Bruker Daltonics Inc., an operating company of Bruker BioSciences Corporation (NASDAQ: BRKR), today announces Chemical Cloud Tomography, a new application for its RAPID™ stand-off detection system for chemical agents, at the 8th International Symposium on Protection against Chemical and Biological Warfare Agents in Gothenburg.
Bruker Daltonics’ RAPID provides reliable stand-off detection of clouds of Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) and Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) in the atmosphere up to a distance of five kilometers, while scanning the horizon 360 degrees. This leading CWA stand-off detector provides long-range detection of chemical agents from a safe distance, permitting early alarms for evacuations or use of protective gear. In North America, the RAPID system is marketed under the name HAWK™.
The innovative, novel three-dimensional Chemical Cloud Tomography capability being introduced today enhances the usefulness of the RAPID system even further. Based on the simultaneous measurements from two RAPID systems deployed at different locations, the Chemical Cloud Tomography capability provides information about the exact location of the chemical agent cloud and the concentration profile of the identified chemicals. The position, shape and the direction in which the cloud is moving can be displayed on a map of the area.
