Nuclear and Chemical Detection Systems

02 October 2002

Amongst other applications Bruker NBC products are designed for use on ships as part of on-board detection systems. On varying platforms, including naval ships, detectors for radiation, biological and chemical agents can be integrated into one network.

Shipboard Chemical Detection Systems (SCDS)

RAID ion mobility spectrometers can be used for the detection and monitoring of chemical warfare agents and other toxic substances. For shipborne use, the following configurations are available:

· RAID detectors as stand alone devices
· RAID detectors with one Remote Control Unit
· Several stationary RAID detectors with data system, and Warner Control and Monitoring software

The instruments are designed for a variety of applications. Stationary RAID-S instruments are key components of chemical detection systems. The instruments can be installed inboard or outboard of the ship citadels, or near NBC filter stations, if filter monitoring is required. The integration of hand-held ion mobility spectrometers (RAID-1, RAID-M) is also possible.

Nuclear and Chemical Detection systems

The Radiation meter SVG2 upgrades the C-detection system to a nuclear and chemical detection system (NCDS). All NCDS components are monitored by using the Warner Control software. Furthermore the instruments can be integrated into a shipboard control and managing system. The NCDS can be used on any type of ship.

A special designed Nuclear & Chemical detection system is available for submarines. It consists of the following components:

a) Nuclear detection system with a SVG2 basic unit for detection of gamma and n radiation in the vessel. The basic unit is integrated into the control and display unit (CDU) and connected with an external gamma probe.

b) The chemical detection system consists of a stationary RAID-U (a special version of RAID-S), a remote control unit (integrated in the CDU), and the gas sampling system.

c) The Control and Display Unit containing the SVG2 basic unit and the remote display unit of the RAID-U serves as the main unit to operate the NC system.
