25 October 2004 12:37

With the MASS countermeasure system for protecting ships from guided missiles equipped with advanced LASER, GPS, RADAR and/or infrared sensor heads, Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH, a subsidiary of the Rheinmetall DeTec group, is the world market leader for softkill systems.

For the first time the Multi Ammunition Softkill System (MASS) will be displayed at EURONAVAL 2004 in Paris Le Bourget.

MASS is an entirely new system, providing ships with effective protection against incoming missiles in inshore waters and on the high seas alike. It operates by firing sequential volleys of decoys, which divert the enemy missile from its intended target, eventually causing it to fly harmlessly off into empty space. Thanks to its new programmable omni-spectral decoys, effective protection in all relevant wavelengths of the eThe MASS system, developed and manufactured in Rheinmetall’s branch Buck Fronau, is the number one in the world for protection of the most modern naval vessels. Customers are the navies of Germany, Finland, Sweden, Norway and the United Arab Emirates.

Beside the German K130 corvettes the SQUADRON 2000 boats of the Finnish Navy, the Visby-class corvettes of the Royal Swedish Navy, the Baynunah programme of the UAE navy as well as the SKJOLD fast patrol boats of the Norwegian Navy will be equipped with MASS.
