Rheinmetall Waffe Munition - Naval Weapon and Protection SystemsRheinmetall Waffe Munition (RWM) offers a wide array of state-of-the-art systems for naval operations, ranging from naval weapons through to mine disposal applications and self protection systems. NAVAL WEAPON SYSTEMSLight Naval Guns: The new Light Naval Gun System MLG 27 combines light weight and high fire power. The optimum combination of the highly efficient revolver cannon BK 27, the very latest ammunition technology, precise fire control and highly dynamic mount assembly ensures that the MLG 27 is the most modern gun available on the world market at present. The MLG 27 is set to become the German Navy's standard gun, replacing the manually operated 20mm and 40mm models. As derivate the Modular Light Naval Gun System is designed particularly for the close-in self defence of all types of warships and patrol boats. Automatic Cannons: The wide range of use of the MK 30 is supported by the cannon's integration potential as single or twin installation. The MK 30-1 (model F) is installed in the BREDA Single 30 naval mount and in the BREDA Twin 30 compact naval mount. The MK 30 is offered with steel case ammunition (MK 30-2) and Air Burst Munition (MK 30-2/ABM). Naval mounts are also available for automatic cannons, such as the MK 20 DM 5. MONARC - Modular Naval Artillery Concept: The MONARC - a development by a German industry consortium - extends the range and effectiveness of naval artillery. The concept entails mounting the turret and main armament of the PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer - the most advanced 155mm artillery system - to the deck of a warship. MONARC represents a forward-looking solution to the problem of finding a high-performance gun for use on frigates and corvettes. SHIP PROTECTION AGAINST ADVANCED ANTI-SHIP MISSILESMASS - Multi Ammunition Softkill System: The MASS naval countermeasure system offers unique protection against intelligent precision weapons. The computerised decoy system protects vessels against attacks from modern, sensor-guided missiles at blue seas, in littoral areas and given a terrorist attack. Thanks to its innovative, programmable omnispectral ammunition, spontaneous effectiveness in all relevant wave bands, including UV, EO, LASER, infrared and RADAR, is guaranteed. MASS is the world's number one for protection of the most modern naval vessels. Beside the German K130 corvettes the SQUADRON 2000 boats (Finland), the Visby-class corvettes (Sweden), the Baynunah programme (UAE) as well as the SKJOLD fast patrol boats (Norway) will be equipped with MASS. 130mm DECOY FAMILYAlso available is the new generation of 130mm decoys for SRBOC launcher systems. BULLFIGHTER and GIANT rounds protect naval vessels up to the size of frigates against anti-ship missiles equipped with RF and/or IR seekers. MINE DISPOSALThe anti frogman depth charges DM 211 is used for protecting ships and harbour installations against enemy frogmen. The remote-controlled explosive cutter, used for cutting the moorings of moored mines, is deployed using the PAP 104 Mk V mine hunting underwater drone. COMPANYThe companies comprising RHEINMETALL's Weapon Munition (RWM) division - Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH, RWM Schweiz AG (the former Oerlikon Contraves Pyrotec AG), Rheinmetall Waffe Munition Arges GmbH and the Nitrochemie group - offer a diverse range of products in the units: Large Calibre, Medium Calibre, Propellants and Protection Systems / Pyrotechnics. The new Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH was formed by the step-by-step merger of Rheinmetall W&M GmbH, Mauser-Werke Oberndorf Waffensysteme GmbH, BUCK Neue Technologien GmbH, Pyrotechnik Silberhütte GmbH and the NICO group. The BK 27 is in service with the German Air Force and other countries. Accordingly the whole range of ammunition is available. This range comprises all usual types of ammunition such as HE-, AP-, APHE-, SAPHE- and practise ammunition. Additionally a new 27mm sub-calibre FAPDS (Frangible Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot) has been developed, which increases the combat distance substantially. | |||
![]() The 'Frangible' concept was developed to defeat both 'hard' and 'soft' targets, without recourse to the use of conventional high explosives and fuzes. On impact, the frangible tungsten alloy core penetrates the outer skin of the target and then progressively breaks up as it passes through the remaining structure, thereby releasing a highly energetic fragment cloud, which causes damage deep inside the target and ensures a high kill probability. |
