A total of 83 MLG 27 light naval gun systems will provide the German Navy's ships and crews with optimum protection during a variety of operations. The first of the new guns were delivered at the end of 2003.

MONARC: 155mm howitzer system mounted on F124 frigate A whole new dimension in naval firepower.

The BK 27 is in service with the German Air Force and other countries. Accordingly the whole range of ammunition is available. This range comprises all usual types of ammunition such as HE-, AP-, APHE-, SAPHE- and practise ammunition. Additionally a new 27mm sub-calibre FAPDS (Frangible Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot) has been developed, which increases the combat distance substantially.

The 'Frangible' concept was developed to defeat both 'hard' and 'soft' targets, without recourse to the use of conventional high explosives and fuzes. On impact, the frangible tungsten alloy core penetrates the outer skin of the target and then progressively breaks up as it passes through the remaining structure, thereby releasing a highly energetic fragment cloud, which causes damage deep inside the target and ensures a high kill probability.
