Additional Contamination Control Assembly for the German U 212 Submarine

The German Navy decides to implement an additional EADS Contamination Control Assembly (SBG) on board the new U212 submarine.
This assembly guarantees a high flexibility for contamination control features during the complete operational life of the submarine. Now it will be possible to respond to a change of the contaminant mixture on board or repsond to changes of the maximum tolerated contaminant levels in the future. According to the required absorption feature, the cartridges of the SBG can be filled with the catalyst or chemical-treated activated charcoal.
Different production rates of the contaminants during the patrol can be handled by exchanging the cartridges easily during the patrol.
This provides also a flexible system for the future of the submarine.
