Marioff - Water Mist Fire ProtectionHI-FOG is a water mist fire protection technology which is fast, efficient, and totally safe for people and the environment. Developed by Marioff, a Finnish company with a background in marine and offshore high-pressure hydraulics, HI-FOG water mist fire protection systems make use of the attributes of the only truly environmentally benign agent – water. HI-FOG has therefore become the first choice for many marine and land-based applications around the world – close to 100% of the current passenger cruise ships under construction are being fitted with HI-FOG water mist fire protection systems. WATER MIST FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM More than 5,000 full-scale fire tests, witnessed by classification societies and marine authorities, have proved the superior fire extinguishing and efficient cooling of HI-FOG water mist fire protection systems – but with very small amounts of water. FIRE PROTECTION WITH SMOKE ABSORPTIONSmoke is often more dangerous than the fire itself. HI-FOG water mist fire protection systems scrub and absorb dangerous smoke particles, providing superior protection to low-pressure water spray systems. INSTANT ACTIVATION FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMSA HI-FOG water mist fire protection system can be activated immediately when there is a fire. Unlike gaseous systems, there's no need to wait for personnel evacuation or sealing of the space, ensuring fire damage is minimised. SELF-CONTAINED WATER MIST FIRE PROTECTION HI-FOG self-contained water mist fire protection systems mean no reliance on external electric power. MINIMAL WATER DAMAGELow flow and stainless-steel tubing mean minimal water damage to equipment in case of accidental discharge or fire. EASY INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONINGBecause of smaller pipe sizes 12mm to 38mm (½in to 1½in) and wide nozzle spacing, installation and commissioning time for HI-FOG water mist fire protection systems is considerably reduced. HI-FOG FIRE SUPPRESSION INSTALLATIONSHI-FOG water mist fire protection systems have not only passed all fire tests required by SOLAS, but also shown their efficiency in a number of real ship fires. Naval installations have included minesweepers, fast patrol craft and supply vessels. Discussions are ongoing with different navies for HI-FOG installations in other naval vessels including submarines. HI-FOG MARINE SPRINKLER SYSTEMSThe HI-FOG marine sprinkler system is an alternative to conventional sprinkler systems and is approved by all major marine authorities and classification societies to IMO A800. The marine sprinkler system protects the accommodation and service areas of ships and is totally automatic. The HI-FOG marine sprinkler system comprises a number of HI-FOG sprinklers connected by fresh water filled stainless steel small bore tubing to a pump unit via section valves. The pump unit is normally electrically driven, but on retrofit vessels with little emergency generator capacity a diesel-driven pump unit can be supplied. The innovative and economical Gas Pump Unit (GPU) is also suitable for vessels where space and fresh water is at a premium and emergency power is not available. HI-FOG MACHINERY SPACE SYSTEMThe HI-FOG machinery space system replaces a gaseous fire extinguishing system and is approved by major marine authorities and classification societies to IMO / MSC 1165. The system utilises the HI-FOG sprinkler pump unit and is activated automatically or manually in sections so the pipework from the section valve is dry. HI-FOG LOCAL APPLICATION SYSTEMSMarioff has approved HI-FOG local application systems which can be fitted in addition to a gaseous total flooding system. The systems, fitted over high-risk areas in machinery spaces, are particularly suitable for naval vessels as they are self-contained and require no electric power.
