Oxley - Night Vision and LED Lighting Systems

Oxley is an innovative designer and manufacturer of electronic components, data capture solutions and night vision and LED lighting systems for naval, aerospace, industrial and defence applications worldwide.

Established in 1942, Oxley has operations in the UK, USA, Australia and India, with in-house capabilities of: electronic and mechanical design; precision machining; optical filter design, manufacture and thin-film coating and advanced production / test facilities.

NAVAL AND MARINE LIGHTING SYSTEMS

Naval operations increasingly involve joint combat, multiple platform manoeuvres and there is a fundamental need for aircraft to be launched to and from the flight deck of a ship at night, using Night Vision Goggles (NVG). The aircraft will be NVG compatible, however the ships external lighting must also converted to NVIS / NVG compatibility or Oxley NVG Friendly™.

In response Oxley has transferred existing knowledge of developing LED and aircraft NVG compatible lighting solutions, into the development of lighting solutions for naval and marine applications.

SHIPS' NIGHT VISION LIGHTING UPGRADES

Oxley offers a total capability in ships NVIS / NVG upgrades and has proven experience in converting helidecks, ships lighting systems and bridges on naval warships and special patrol vessels. All aspects of the lighting are examined, along with the special requirements of flight deck, bridge and crew lighting.

Oxley will design a relevant solution from either LED technology which has improved performance characteristics; or by the installation of an Oxley optical filter. White and Night Vision Device (NVD) blue Oxley NVG Friendly™ can be incorporated and where necessary, the original colours of all navigation and operational lights are retained.

SHIPS' NAVIGATION LIGHT LED BULB REPLACEMENTS

Oxley LED bulb replacements are designed to replace incandescent bulbs in ship navigation lights. Oxley NVG Friendly™, they permit aircraft operations to be conducted at night without blooming the NVG. Available in NVIS white, green and red they can be tailored to most style of navigation light. They are robust, reliable and last substantially longer than filament bulbs.

BRIDGE AND CONTROL STATION LIGHTING

To prevent incompatible light emitted from bridge and control stations from interfering with the pilot's NVG, it is necessary to remove unwanted infra-red light through the NVG conversion of all lighting.

Oxley has a comprehensive range of solutions from NVG compatible optical filters in accordance with MIL-STD-3009 for the internal or external modification displays, LED bulb replacements and floodlights / bezels for instrument lighting.

PATROL CRAFT LIGHTING

Offshore, fast patrol and small patrol boats are candidates for significant operational enhancement with the addition of Oxley Covert Infra-red Formation lights, follow me lights and floodlights. The wheelhouse lighting and electronic displays may also be converted with Oxley bridge lighting and optical filter solutions.

SUBMARINES AND AREA LIGHTING

Oxley lighting technologies are proven in use on submarines and are designed to suit harsh environments from control rooms to propulsion. We have a comprehensive range of LED panel indicators, LED bulb replacements, egress lighting and floodlights for illuminating walkways and large areas, which can also be customised for specific applications.

NAVAL AIRCRAFT LIGHTING

Oxley has vast experience in modifying helicopters and fast jets to NVG compatibility and in the design and installation of aircraft lighting systems. The naval platforms upgraded by Oxley include: Lynx, Sea King, Super Puma, EH-101, EA-6B, F-14, F-18.

Tailored to the operational use of the aircraft, our customers benefit from a simple NVG cockpit upgrade; the addition of covert IR formation lights for formation flying and Oxley NVG Friendly™ navigation lights for conducting missions in controlled airspace. All such programmes are FAR / EASA compliant and qualified to BS EN ISO9001:2000 or AS EN 9100 Rev B.

EMERGENCY EGRESS LIGHTING

Oxley has proven experience in the design and supply of LED technology egress lighting systems for ships and naval helicopters. Our Survivolite™ egress lighting system is qualified to penetrate dense smoke and turbid water, meeting exit safety regulations, MIL-L-85676 AS and the appropriate STANAG 3870 viewing requirements.
