HI Fraser, established in 1955, is a multi-faceted organisation providing diverse products and services in pneumatic, high-pressure hydraulic and hyperbaric fluid systems. Proudly Australian-owned, HI Fraser has extensive design, documentation, certification, manufacturing, installation and overhaul experience in naval, oil and gas, rail and commercial marine industries.
HI Fraser has a well-earned reputation for being able to provide and understand every part of naval air systems. In addition, we have DMO Level 3-approved engineers and routinely conduct custom design, manufacture and repair of RAN hyperbaric assets.
HI Fraser is the exclusive Australian representative for Chesterfield special cylinders (UK). Chesterfield Special Cylinders designs and manufactures bespoke ultra-large high-pressure seamless steel cylinders for the storage and transport of gases for a wide range of applications, including submarine and surface vessel HP air storage in the naval industry.
HI Fraser provides the Hale Hamilton (UK) range of high-pressure valves and fluid control products, and is the exclusive Australian agent for the company. Hale Hamilton is a leader in the design, manufacture, supply and support of high-performance fluid control equipment, designed to perform under critical conditions of pressure and cleanliness, to satisfy demanding technical requirements worldwide.
Hale Hamilton components are used extensively across the Royal Australian Navy for regulation and control of hydraulic systems, including the Collins class submarines, the Huon-class minehunters and the ANZAC-class frigates, as well as many other general applications.
HI Fraser is the exclusive Australian-authorised service representative for Marotta Controls (USA), a leading supplier of fluid control systems, components and associated electronics.
Marotta valves and manifolds are prevalent on the RAN’s existing FFG, and the new LHD and AWD-class ships, as well as the new joint strike fighter (JSF).
Following the necessity of environmental solutions for marine sewage treatment being recognised within the marine industry, from 2010 any new vessel must be compliant to new marine pollution (MARPOL) regulations for discharge into the ocean.
As a result, HI Fraser has united with EVAC, a Finish developer and manufacturer, to provide the perfect system to treat waste-water in commercial sea vessels, offshore rigs, ferries, navy ships and the general boating market.
Known as the EVAC membrane bio-reactor (MBR), the waste-water system utilises the tried-and-tested biological treatment process combined with modern membrane technology to separate the water from unpleasant sewage.
EVAC has completed testing against the demanding MPEC.159 (55) standard, in which the discharge water is tested over ten days in real-life applications. The MBR passed the tests, meeting all current and future cleanliness standards.
In order to achieve a world-leading product, EVAC has spent many years designing and testing the MBR system. The use of flat-plate membranes, manufactured by Kubota, a top membrane supplier into the sewage industry, was the solution.
The flat plates filter the water from the waste and because they require very little pressure to get the water out, the plates last a very long time, require very little power to run, allow the biological process to work at its best and are very hard to block.
EVAC has also worked hard on ensuring the process was reliable whilst also meeting the tight space constraints on all types of commercial vessels. Industrial pumps, blowers and filtration units are combined with industrial PLC control units to ensure 24/7 availability.
The system does not require any back flushing or constant chemical cleaning, making it the most economic and maintenance-friendly membrane bio-reactor solution in the market.
The membrane bio-reactor system is now available in standard configurations, with the smallest able to treat waste from 24 crew and passengers, but it can also be scaled up to fit the world’s largest cruise vessels with over 5,000 people on-board.
The system is so successful that EVAC has been selected to supply the advanced total waste-water treatment system for eight FREMM multi-mission frigates of the French Navy, which will enter service in 2011 through to 2016.
HI Fraser is currently working with both the air warfare destroyer (AWD) and landing helicopter deck (LHD) projects to examine the opportunity for both projects to take advantage of the technology, so that the AWD and LHD are fully MARPOL 2010, MPEC 159 (55) and DEFAUST 5000 compliant.
