GEM elettronica - C4I, ECDIS, VTMIS, Navigation and Control SystemsGEM elettronica is a private company founded in 1978 that has been working in the field of the study and production of military, paramilitary and civilian equipment and systems for naval, air and terrestrial applications. Since its foundation, the company has been acquiring the talent and the requisite resources to build equipment for satisfying the evolutionary tendencies of navigation. In doing so, GEM focused its activities on developing practical and effective methods to solve the problems of acquisition, identification and processing of information in real time. This trend to keep abreast of technology is going on and considerable efforts have being devoted to this aim. GEM elettronica is certified ISO 9001 and fully conforms to NATO AQAP-110. RADARGEM's radar production covers a wide range of applications, both civilian and military, onboard vessels of every size, from the smallest (pleasure boats, fishing ships, fast patrol boats, offshore vessels) up to the biggest (ferries, tankers, frigates, carriers). ECDIS - ELECTRONIC CHART DISPLAY AND INFORMATION SYSTEMOur proven Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) is approved by DNV in compliance with the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO), the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It displays S-57/DX-90 cartography on a high-resolution colour LCD screen and can overlay radar video from ARPA radar systems. It comes in two main configurations: stand-alone or embedded for inclusion in integrated bridges. COMMAND, CONTROL, COMMUNICATIONS, COMPUTERS AND INTELLIGENCE (C4I) CONSOLESOur new generation Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) consoles are based on VME or PCI bus and run UNIX or Windows operative systems. They have been developed and produced for major ships such as corvettes, frigates and destroyers. NAVIGATION SENSORSIn order to be able to provide complete integrated bridges, GEM is also producing navigation sensors, such as our gyrocompass - Polaris series, long life, high reliability and performance, and our GPS receivers – touchscreen, with 12 satellites tracked and a built-in modem. VTMIS AND COASTAL SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMSThese Vessel Traffic Management and Information Systems (VTMIS) are rapidly spreading all over the world as a basic instrument in navigation surveillance. VTMIS systems help increase safety at sea, prevent access to dangerous or forbidden areas and monitor national borders. OPTRONIC SYSTEMSGEM designs and manufactures the latest-generation optronic systems. Enhanced versions can be supplied including a laser rangefinder, an electronic tracker and a ballistic computer, especially designed for weapon control purposes. TRAINING PROGRAMSThe company headquarters offers an extremely well furnished training and education centre, used for upgrading the knowledge and skills of our own personnel and those of other firms and institutions. With top-level instructors and modern training aids we conduct courses in the operation, maintenance and repair of navigational systems at levels I, II and III. SIMULATION PROGRAMSNew GEM training programs have been developed using a sophisticated full bridge and multi mission simulator, in order to promote training courses for: shipboard master, officer, TLC operator; VTMIS operator; Navy missions, including patrol and combat operations. These include:
