Barco Unveils Brand-New Line of Versatile Primary Flight and Mission Displays

19 July 2006 16:53

Avionics display specialist Barco has extended its range of solutions with a brand-new line of versatile primary flight and mission displays.

The new product line, called CHDD-2000, has the unique capability of accepting both digital video and most analog video inputs. This flexibility enables the displays to be easily integrated into a host of new and retrofit cockpit environments. Furthermore, most of the new CHDD-2000 displays can be equipped with a state-of-the-art infrared touch screen option.

The first members of the new CHDD-2000 family to be launched are the 5x4 inch CHDD-254 and a 6x8 inch CHDD-268. Larger versions, such as an 8x10 inch and a 12x9 inch display, will be added to the range soon. The innovative 6x8 inch CHDD-268 incorporates the latest AMLCD and LED backlight technology, which not only results in excellent brightness and contrast but also in an exceptional viewing angle of 80° in all directions. Because of this, the same CHDD-268 unit can be used in portrait as well as landscape mode.

The CHDD-2000 line has been designed to deliver maximum flexibility and user-friendliness. If desired, the CHDD-268 can be equipped with a unique touch screen control option, based on the latest infrared LED-technology. It enables a very high degree of pointing precision and allows the CHDD-268 display to be used as a powerful graphical control interface without degrading its optical quality in any way. What's more, the sophisticated touch screen technology anticipates for the ergonomically advanced cockpits of the future.

The use of advanced electronics made it possible for Barco to bring both power consumption and overall dimensions of the CHDD-2000 to new levels. Moreover, Barco designed the CHDD-2000 line to be ready for the latest ARINC 817 and 818 digital video standards.

All CHDD-2000 displays are fully DO-178B and DO-254 certified up to level A. As a result, they can be used for a variety of video applications (FLIR, mission, WxR, EVS, Moving Map, etc.) and/or primary flight applications (EFIS). For the latter, Barco can offer its PU-2000 as a symbol generator source and its MOSArt platform for third party software development. A multitude of keyboard designs and a touch panel option make it possible to support every cockpit function.
